STAR of the Month: Razor B makes his Olympic predictions
With the Olympic Games set for Rio, Brazil, drawing closer, many Jamaicans are growing excited about the Jamaican team's prospect in the summer games. The STAR of the Month, Razor B, is no exception.
The athlete-turned-entertainer gave his two cents on everything athletic. From his predictions for Jamaica's final medal countdown to who will take home gold in the men's and women's 100 metre finals. These are the five questions with Razor B - the Olympics edition.
1. Are you looking forward to the summer Olympic Games in Rio?
Razor B: Of course. I'm so excited about it. I believe our athletes are going to do very well and will make Jamaica proud once more.
2. Who are your favourite male and female athletes (if you have any)?
Razor B: Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. They take track and field to a whole new level. This is the most entertaining, track and field has been in the history of the sport, and I strongly believe they are going to get the three-peat in the 100 metre sprint.
3. There are many people who believe that Jamaica's athletics will take a nosedive after this batch of athletes retire (Fraser-Pryce, Bolt, Warren Weir, etc). What is your opinion on this?
Razor B: Honestly, at one point in time I was saying that, but not after this year's Boys and Girls' Champs. You have this youth, Taylor from Calabar and Blomfield from KC, as well as Junelle Bromfield from STETHS and others. They're amazing. The youths are running amazing times and with what they are doing right now, anything is possible.
4. What are some of your predictions for the 2016 Games?
Razor B: I know we're taking the 100 metre and 200 metre (men and women), the 4x100 (men and women), 4x400m (women) no doubt about that. I think we also have a chance of medalling in the 400m hurdles for men and women also, as well as the sprint hurdles for men and women. I see Jamaica finishing in the top three for track and field.
5. As someone who was on an athletic scholarship and used to participate in track in high school, you know the type of training that goes on behind the scenes. What do you have to say to aspiring athletes?
Razor B: Track and field training is one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life and I'm very physical so I know the challenges. To become a champion, you have to train on a daily basis, but I encourage you to stick to it if you want to become the next Usain Bolt or Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. You can't think that it's just going to happen overnight, you have to put in the work.
