Calling all farmers! - Vacancies available in expanding business

March 10, 2016

"Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O. And on his farm he had a cow, E-I-E-I-O."

This particular farm to be scoped in THE STAR's Jobs & Careers feature this week, unlike the age-old nursery rhyme, is a vegetable farm rather than a livestock farm.

Additionally, contrary to the facts as presented in the nursery rhyme we all grew up singing, the proprietor's name is Michael Fox rather than 'Old MacDonald'.

Through our feature, we at THE STAR yet again sought to make a match between employers and employees. After searching the Gleaner Classifieds for job postings, our news team connected with Fox, who operates the Food Basket Farm located in the Blue Mountains in east St Andrew. Fox is now tasked with filling the vacancies for farmers as he seeks to expand his business.

"I'm located in the New Castle area in the Blue Mountains," the proprietor began. "I'm looking for persons who have worked on a farm before, and those who are experienced in farming. Not a very young person. Someone who might have been to an agricultural college if possible. The practical experience plays a larger role."

Fox stated that he prefers candidates that are between the ages of 30-50 years old.

Successful applicants can expect to carry out the tasks of weeding, bushing, cultivating, spraying and reaping, the proprietor said.

The proprietor told THE STAR that he is looking for six worthy candidates to join his workforce. Both males and females are welcome to apply.

"The gender doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, I want to get one or two females in the group. I'm really looking for four men, two women, or five men, and one woman," he said. "I want somebody who can coexist. Someone who can get along with other workers."

Interested persons are invited to contact Mr Fox at (876) 284-6600.
