Police on the hunt for robbers

It was like a scene out of the 'Wild West', following the fatal shooting of one of three alleged armed robbers, who were challenged by a hardware store operator in Highgate, St Mary, last Sunday.

Detectives from the Highgate Police Station are now hot on the trail of the two remaining alleged robbers who are on the run.

The deceased man has been identified as 21-year-old Hasan Atkinson of a Kingston 19 address.

THE STAR understands that on Sunday about 9:15 a.m., three armed men allegedly robbed a hardware store in the parish, and made off with items valuing more than $100,000.

Following the incident, they were challenged by the owner of the establishment. An unlucky Atkinson was subsequently shot, while his accomplices managed to escape.

The police were summoned and upon their arrival, Atkinson was seen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Up to late yesterday, the police said they were yet to take Atkinson's accomplices into custody, but assured that they are continuing their probe into the matter.
