Police hunt taxi driver's killer

Up to late yesterday, detectives from the Lacovia Police Station in St Elizabeth said they are still searching for the person(s) responsible for the death of a taxi operator in Newton in the parish.

The deceased man has been identified as 48-year-old Garfield Harris of an address close to Maggotty, St Elizabeth.

THE STAR understands that at approximately 8 a.m., residents were alerted to the sound of explosions in the area. It is said that residents witnessed men running from the direction of the now deceased man's motorcar at the time of the incident. It is said that the car ran off the roadway, resulting in a crash.

Harris' body was discovered inside the vehicle with what was thought to be gunshot wounds thereafter.

The police were subsequently alerted. Upon their arrival, the scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue.

According to the police, no strong leads pointing to the motive of the brazen daylight murder have so far materialised, however investigations continue.
