March prelim for woman on murder rap

Renee Hibbert, the woman accused of the 2014 stabbing death of businessman Kentley Thomas, has had her case set for preliminary examination on March 3, 2016, following her latest appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court on Monday.

Hibbert is charged with murder, in which it is alleged that she stabbed Thomas during a quarrel at a nightclub in Montego Bay. She had initially been scheduled to start her preliminary hearing on Monday.

When the case was called up before RM Sandria Wong-Small, it was revealed that several subpoenas had been sent out for prosecution witnesses in the mater, but it could not be determined if the subpoenas had been served.

Consequently, RM Wong-Small set the case to be heard on March 3 next year.

The allegations are that on September 13, 2014, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Hibbert and Thomas were patrons at a nightclub along Gloucester Avenue, when the two got into a dispute.

During the ensuing brawl, Hibbert reportedly brandished a knife and stabbed Thomas in the chest before fleeing the scene. Thomas subsequently died and Hibbert was charged on September 24, 2014.
