The dancehall fraternity came out in their numbers in support of the late entertainer J Capri, at a nine night which took place at Little Copa, Bull Bay, St Andrew last Saturday night.

According to J Capri's father, Kenneth Phillips, rather than being a sombre occasion, it was more of a commemoration of his daughter's triumphs and life.

"It went well. It was extremely good," he said.

"It was actually more like a celebration of her life, because we didn't want to make it sad. We were also celebrating her achievements over a period of time. We tried to emphasise a more happier mood."

Several performers including Jah Vinci and Jahmiel appeared in J Capri's honour.

Popular disc jockeys such as ZJ Smurf, ZJ Liquid, and Boom Boom also came out to provide music for grieving fans as they celebrated the late dancehall artiste's life.

Ninja Man, Natty King, among others also attended the event.

no surprise

Phillips told THE STAR that he wasn't surprised at the turnout at the event, based on the outpourings of well-wishers across the globe.

The proud father added that he was proud to have been made aware of her impact on the world.

"I wouldn't say it is surprising, but I'm elated to know (of her wide admiration)," he said.

Phillips and the family received a vast amount of condolences expressed by J Capri's adoring fans

The late artiste's funeral service is set for today at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Chapel, St Andrew. The service is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.

After the smooth execution of J Capri's nine night, her father acknowledges that the family will continue to remain strong in their time of anguish.

"It's an extremely great loss, and we are just coping," he said.
