WINDSCREEN WIPER STABS, BEATS COP

A male windscreen wiper, who assaulted a police officer for refusing his services, was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Eighteen-year-old Ricardo Morrison pleaded guilty to the charges of assaulting a police officer, assault at common law, resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property.

The court heard that on December 8, about 6 p.m., the officer was driving his private car on his way to work when he reached a stop light, and Morrison attempted to wipe his [the officer's] windscreen.

It is said that the officer told Morrison to stop wiping his windscreen. But, instead of listening to the cop, Morrison pulled out a ratchet knife, which he used to stab at the officer. When the officer alighted from his car, Morrison grabbed his pants and punched him all over his body, causing pain and swelling to the officer.

Morrison also broke the officer's identification card during the fracas.

When the other windscreen wipers in the vicinity pleaded with Morrison to cease his attack on the officer, Morrison reportedly shouted at the officer saying, "Bwoy, mi ago kill yuh enuh! Mi ago kill you!"

The officer eventually overpowered Morrison and took him to the Hunt's Bay Police Station, where he was arrested and charged.

Morrison is to reappear in court on January 25.
