Man remanded for throat stabbing

A man who stabbed another in his throat then allegedly went into hiding for seven months was arrested recently and hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Anthony Mckenzie.

He pleaded guilty to the offence. However, his argument to the court was that he acted in self-defence.

The court heard that on March 24, at about midday, an argument developed between McKenzie and the complainant at a barber shop.

Reports are that the

complainant then left the establishment and went to a nearby bus stop.

Allegations are that McKenzie walked up to the complainant and stabbed him in his neck.

An investigation was launched and police finally held him on October 28.

When asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey why couldn't the police locate him, he said, "My

Lord, I was always in the community... caw dem a gunslinger, I just a defend myself. Mi never know dem woulda bring it go police, is defend mi a defend myself."

RM Pusey then instructed the court clerk to have the complainant present at McKenzie's next appearance on January 25.

"Stay with me, you look like a seasoned camper calling me 'My Lord'", said RM Pusey to the accused.

McKenzie was further remanded in custody.
