Man fined for stabbing boxer

A man who allegedly wounded an aspiring boxer after he failed to deliver on a promise to fix or return some DVD players was fined $5,000 on Monday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates' (RM) Court.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Carlos Powell.

He told the court that he did not stab the complainant, stating that a tussle with a bicycle caused him to get a wound on his hand.

The court heard that the boxer, who also dabbles in electronic repairs, was given three DVD players to fix by the complainant two years ago. Since then, the accused has been trying to obtain the devices to no avail.

They were, however, returned to him during the court sitting.

Senior RM Judith Pusey also instructed Powell to return the complainant's bicycle that was confiscated.

Thinking that was the final judgement, the complainant began to tell the court that the stab wound on his hand has caused him great suffering because he is unable to train and further his career.

After listening to his argument, RM Pusey said, "You had the man DVDs for two years and refuse to give him or fix it..."

Powell was subsequently fined.
