A man who rode away a bicycle without permission was bound over for a year when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Charged with simple larceny is Joseph Edwards. He pleaded guilty and provided the court with an explanation.

The court was told Edwards took the bicycle and rode from Mountain View Avenue to downtown Kingston.

The bicycle, valued at approximately $15,000, was retrieved from the accused man and handed over to the complainant the same day.

Edwards in his defence, told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey he was a Bellevue patient, and had not stolen the bicycle because he had planned to return it, though he had not sought permission from the complainant.

"A something mi go buy a town fi come back," said Edwards.

"A nuh di first mi borrow it. Mi ride it go check mi girl already and bring it back," Edwards said with a broad smile on his face.

RM Pusey subsequently granted Edwards bail, $1,000, in his own surety.
