91-year-old blind man serious about voting

At 91, Lloyd Anderson could have been forgiven for staying away from the polls today. He is also blind. But Anderson felt duty-bound to go out and cast his vote in St Thomas Eastern, and so he did.

Anderson, who was assisted to the Power Faith Church in Cheswick, said he woke up at four o'clock and was ready to head out by 6 a.m.

"I want to help my fellow Jamaicans and help my country," Anderson told The Gleaner.

The two candidates who had campaigned for Anderson's vote were the People's National Party's (PNP’s) Fenton Ferguson and the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP’s) Delano Seiveright.

Anderson, who said he has been voting from he was legally permitted to do so, believes all Jamaicans should exercise this right.

"You select the government that you want," Anderson said.
