A Portland man is nursing a serious head injury at hospital after being mobbed by residents for allegedly harassing a bartender at Berrydale in the parish on Sunday.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was rushed to hospital after being shot in the head with a spear gun.

According to the police, the man was injured by the mob following an incident involving a female bartender.

The police said that the woman, who lost several pieces of furniture and personal items during the recent flood rains in the parish, was approached by a man who expressed an interest in having a relationship with her.

When his request was denied, the man reportedly began hurling expletives at the woman. It is alleged that he also threw a bottle at her which narrowly missed her head, but ended up in a pot of chicken that was being prepared for Sunday dinner.

Following the bottle throwing incident, the man was allegedly attacked and beaten by a group of men. However, he managed to escape.

It is further reported that a handful of residents went in search of the man. A member of the community search party then shot him in the head with a spear gun.

The man was rushed to Port Antonio Hospital, but was later transferred to Kingston Public Hospital.

The Portland police are investigating.
