Man held trying to flee to Jamaica

A man, who tried to flee to Jamaica from the United States after jumping his sentencing date, was arrested recently.

According to www.nbcnewyork.com, Clifford Perkins was arrested over the weekend while trying to board a flight that would take him out of the country.

Perkins was convicted of negligent homicide in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash that killed Scott Phillips, better known by his stage name, DJ Father Shaheed, on the Sprain Brook Parkway on May 25, 2014.

THE STAR gathered that Perkins failed to appear in court for his sentencing on August 3. It is said that he was cuffed at LaGuardia Airport in New York trying to fly to Florida for a connecting flight to Jamaica.

Phillips was a DJ and producer of the New Jersey hip-hop collective Poor Righteous Teachers.

He was killed after Perkins' motorcycle crashed into the back of a Mazda sedan.

The sedan then slammed into a guard rail, spun out of control and hit Phillips' bike, which burst into flames.
