A second-form student from the Victor Dixon High School in Manchester died in hospital last night after being hit by a taxi while on her way to school yesterday morning.

According to reports, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the student disembarked a taxi and proceeded to cross the street at the intersection of Manchester and May Day roads, when a taxi travelling in the opposite direction hit her and flung her on to a Honda CRV travelling towards Mandeville.

She was later rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Before the student passed away, Loyda Harvey, guidance counsellor at the institution, said the school was prayerful and special devotion was done for the student and her family members.

With the increase in accidents happening along the stretch, Harvey believes traffic lights should be installed at the intersection to prohibit the reckless driving of motorists.
