Woman charged for throwing away traffic ticket

A woman was charged for breaching the National Solid Waste Management Act after she threw away a traffic ticket issued to her by a police officer on Michael Manley Boulevard earlier this month.

Camala Robe pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Friday.

Robe told the court that on the day in question, she was driving in a traffic queue on the road when she was picked out of the line by the traffic cop.

"They said that I was going over 80 (miles per hour), and I told them that was not possible as I was in traffic," Robe said.

According to Robe, after she was handed the ticket, she allowed the wind to blow it out of her hand and drove off.

Peeved by the apparent disrespect, the police drove down Robe and asked her to pull over.

"He asked, 'Ma'am, why did you throw away the ticket?' I said I didn't throw it away, the wind blew it out of my hand," Robe recalled.

Presiding Judge Simone Wolfe Reece told Robe that she allowed her emotions to get the better of her.

She was fined $500.
