Fabulous art show at Doctor’s Cave

Art enthusiasts in Montego Bay were given a treat this past Friday night as they got the first taste of the opening of an art exhibition displaying the work of Jamaican Andrea Jadusingh and Slovenia-born-naturalised Jamaican Jaka Okorn at the Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay.

The collection of large portraits and colourful abstracts captured a variety of subjects and had the small turnout of fans, who braved the late-afternoon rain, nodding their approval as they examined the various pieces, which were unique in many respects.

"We thought it was pretty strategic to have it at Doctor's Cave, where we hope to start a new trend of art exhibitions for this venue," said Jadusingh, who displayed pieces from her new 'Namaste' art series.

"They are not the everyday, run-of-the-mill portraits. I have used a lot of media and techniques. I was told that it is not common for women to do portraits in Montego Bay, and so I think other women and younger audiences will benefit from how I used the textures and canvas," added Jadusingh.

Okorn, who has had exhibitions in his native land, New York, and at Tryall in Jamaica, said his abstract paintings were created to evoke a myriad emotions and feelings.

"I have been painting all my life, and this is unlike anything I have done. My portraits are unusual and others like them," said Okorn. " I hope there is a connection with the people as even the younger generation is already showing appreciation."

Following the impressive opening night, the exhibition was slated to continue for another four days at the same venue. The art lovers were afforded the opportunity to buy their favourite pieces.
