Despite the fact that the Bamboo River runs throughout their community, some residents of the rural Hanover district have been forced to live without water in their taps.

"We no have no water up on the hill, we have to a still a carry pan go full up a river and hold it on our head," said Peter Malcolm.

Malcolm who was born and raised in Bamboo, said he may soon lack the strength to venture out to the river every few days to catch water.

"We have a tank in the community, but it can't supply water because it needs a pump. The tank up a hill, and water can hardly go up the hill to catch in it. The little that it catch done fast because other people a beat you to it. If we had a pump to pump up the water into the tank, then maybe it can then gravity - feed to the community," said Malcolm.

Another resident, Dave Ferguson, said that persons who cannot make it to the river have to buy water from water trucks.

"Other communities a get water but up where we are there is no water, and all we have been hearing are empty promises," said Ferguson.

"We tired to walk and catch water. We tired to buy water from truck. We need running pipe water in we homes in Bamboo," he added.
