The reapeated cries for better road conditions in the Spicy Hill community in Trelawny have gone unanswered for more than five years and residents are upset.

When the WESTERN STAR visited the rural district recently, residents were eager to point out the bad roads.

They noted that the poor road infrastructure has long been leading to many problems, including costly vehicular issues.

"It no safe to have these roads in Spicy Hill, because I am blind in one eye and it make it harder to walk on the road with all these potholes," said one Dimple Gomez.

"Sometimes the road them turn inna swimming pool when rain fall, and no one nah do nothing. The road bad, man," she added.

Similar sentiments were shared among other residents, even those living in the housing scheme section of the community.

They noted that the roadways in the scheme have eroded into tracks and are a dust nuisance.

"The scheme worse than anywhere else; a hill and gully, and a years now it stay so," said Bennieta Graham as she walked along a red dirt path where a proper road once was. "The member of parliament said them a go start it, and another time they say parish council not responsible for it. Every year I have to pay tax and we nah see it spend back in the community. We need a change."

Some persons noted that they sometimes have to take matters in their own hands and try to fix where they can to make their lives easier.

However, it is an uphill battle, because their efforts are soon washed away whenever there is heavy rain.

They are calling on the relevant authorities for some assistance to the long-standing issue.

"Rain fall and water a dig up the road, it's a disgrace. It's like we deh pon we own," said shopkeeper Mazel Robb.

Residents are also concerned about the inconsistent collection of garbage in the community.
