Alleged gangster further remanded

Yassar 'Fry-Eye' James, the alleged leader of the Hanover-based One Voice gang, was remanded in custody yesterday when he appeared in the Hanover Circuit Court to answer to a range of charges.

James is linked to a range of criminal activities, including selling guns and ammunition, extortion and contract killings. He is also charged with the gangland-style murder of Andre McKenzie.

"James is the leader of the One Voice gang and based on our intelligence, he is behind over 40 per cent of the murders committed over a five-year period, prior to his capture in early 2017," said Deputy Superintendent Conrad Cummings, the operations officer for the Hanover Police Division.

Cummings said the gang is the most vicious one in Hanover.

"The members of the gang are linked to dozens of murders in and around the communities of Middlesex, Diaz, and Greenland," he said.

When James appeared in court yesterday, Stephen Smith, who appeared for the Crown, told High Court judge Justice Martin Gayle that one file, which was quite pertinent to the McKenzie murder case, was not yet ready.

Gayle subsequently ordered that James, who has been in custody since his arrest, be further remanded until Thursday when the file in question is expected to be ready.
