Past students donate to Manchester-based school

The students at the Frankfield Primary and Infant School in south Manchester had much to be grateful for last Friday after being presented with a state-of-the art multimedia system valued at more than $550,000.

The donation was made by US-based past students and corporate friends and is the first of three phases. The system includes a 70-inch smart television with a roll-away stand, Microsoft Surface laptop and portable PA system consisting of power speaker with mixer and microphone.

Bishop Samuels of the Jamaica Pentecostal Church of God of Mizpah was on hand to do the formal handover and dedication on behalf of the past students to the school's principal, Jason Scott. During the dedication, Samuels urged the students to protect and take care of the equipment, as well as to cultivate a spirit of volunteerism so that one day they, too, can pay it forward to the next generation.

Nichole D. Plummer-Donaldson, the organiser and a past student of Frankfield Primary and Infant School, believes that giving back resonates with the famous words of John F. Kennedy: 'Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country'.

She said that her mission is to continue providing educational assistance to her alma mater with the hope of fostering more unique opportunities while fulfilling her role in doing what she can for her country Jamaica.

The gift was made possible by the generous donations made by Cristina Mariani-May, Pamela Mariani of Banfi Vintners (United States), Stanley Gilpin of Gillo Realty Corp (United States), some caring past students, and giving friends.
