Gangsters creating mayhem in Maxfield Avenue

May 31, 2019

Yet another person has been murdered in the Maxfield Avenue community in Kingston.

The latest victim is Tammy Hartwell o/c Shotta or Tommy Lee, who was shot and killed while he slept in a house on Fitzgerald Avenue about 1:30 a.m.

The STAR understands that unknown assailants kicked open the door to Hartwell's house and opened fire, hitting him several times.

Superintendent Gary Francis, head of the St Andrew South division, says the police has been doing its best to keep the lid on violence in the community.

"It goes deeper than policing issues, it's about civilized behaviour. What we have is a case where our society has too many people who choose to resolve conflict violently. There is also the ease of access to firearms. This is a deadly lethal force weapon, and they use it," Francis said.

There has been intense ongoing gang tension in the Maxfield Avenue community over the past few months. This has resulted in about a dozen killings in the space of two months.

SP Francis said, "Whatever the numbers (murder) that we have, its far too much. We are seeing a slight reduction, maybe four or so less than the corresponding period last year."

The Hunts Bay CIB are investigating the latest murder.
