Canadian/Clarendon groups partner for outreach event

Canada-based Maica Impact Foundation has partnered with the Free Town Church of God of Prophecy Outreach Foundation to host its annual health fair and back-to-school giveaways.

Maica Impact is a registered charitable organisation consisting of a diverse group of individuals living in Canada, who came together primarily to implement positive change in the health and education sectors of Jamaica.

"Over the years, Maica Impact has served various communities within Jamaica, working on projects ranging from its annual University of the West Indies Scholarship Fund, building playgrounds, completing basic school repairs, and providing resources to schools, orphanages and health clinics," said Rachel Hernandez, a member of the foundation.

She said that after a member from the Clarendon-based church foundation reached out to the team seeking assistance, they were happy to come on board.

"Maica Impact is in the process of calling on individuals and businesses in Canada to assist with providing school supplies and backpacks for the children who attend this event," said Hernandez.

Commenting on the partnership, Hernandez said those are the kinds of project they love to give aid to.

"It's all about making an impact and pushing our mantra which is, 'Together We Can'. I truly believe that there is power in partnership, and we will be looking to see a successful implementation of this project," she said.

Rev Dr Zebulah Aiken, one of the directors of the foundation, expressed joy that Maica Impact has come on board.

"We have had our challenges, and each year God continues to amaze us," she said, also thanking perennial sponsors Tanya Taylor and Melonie Sterling, who migrated from the community but continues to give back.

The event, scheduled for Friday, August 16, will also see the Clarendon Health Department, as well as volunteers who are past recipients of the Peace and Love Academic Scholarships coming on board.
