Heavy rain floods sections of Spanish Town
Heavy rain in Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday resulted in several streets of the old capital being flooded.
When THE STAR ventured along Old Harbour Road, in the vicinity of Horizon Park, the water was very heavy along the thoroughfare, leaving persons seeking shelter wherever they could.
Along Grants Crescent in the Hampton Green Housing Scheme, murky water inundated the streets and formed large ponds. The playing field adjacent to the Harrison's Preparatory School was also flooded.
Constant problem
Heavy waters from Frazier's Content caused severe flooding along the Johnson Pen main road, as the water overflowed the drains in the community.
"This is a constant problem whenever time there is a heavy downpour. This is very frustrating to the residents, the motorists, and all who use this area; we need better drains," said Michael, a taxi man.
While there were no reported deaths throughout St Catherine, there were loud calls for assistance to ease flooding concerns in the parish.
"We haven't received any reports of death or injury, but we continue to be in a state of readiness to respond should the need arises," a representative at the St Catherine Municipal Corporation said.
