A man who said he stole various objects to get money to pay for his child's health care will be sentenced on November 1.

Dane Peart was charged with simple larceny when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday to which he pleaded guilty.

The statement received by the prosecution is that between August and September 10, 2019, Peart went to a business place where he damaged several AC units, refrigerators and stole other items including motors and compressors to be used as scrap metal.

Peart told presiding judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that he was only trying to get money for his child who is in hospital.

"I took the motor to get some money to take care of my child who was in the hospital. It was like a scrap metal thing mi did a do. A just some likkle motor," he told the court.

"It might be a little to you but it is valuable to the people it belong to," the judge replied.

Peart tried to apply for bail in order to have the opportunity to repay the business owners, however, his request was denied.

"Not now, Sir. The time you spent in custody is being taken into account for sentencing," said Cole-Montague.
