Members of the Highgate Police Station in St Mary were plunged into mourning after one of their colleagues, Corporal Orrette Richards, died suddenly yesterday.

Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit is that Richards was at home with his wife around 9 a.m, when he complained that he was not feeling well. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A co-worker told THE STAR that Richards was a hard-working officer, who loved his job.

"He was an exemplary worker. All the good adjectives that can be used to describe him, he was. He went the extra mile. Words can't explain how good he was," she said.

SHOCKED

Commanding Officer for the division, Bobette Morgan, said she was shocked when she got the news of Richards' death.

"I was told that he was taken to the hospital but when I get the next call. I was like: 'What!' It was not expected at all," she said.

Morgan, who has been the commanding officer in the parish since December 2017, fondly remembered Richards as someone who went above and beyond the call of duty.

"Anywhere you have a breakdown and you want to send him, he is going to go there and he is going to do the job. He doesn't complain, him just do him thing. If you need him to go the extra mile, he will do it without any complaints. He is very willing, very committed, very dedicated member," she said.
