Charity donates wheelchair to young man with cerebral palsy
A group that calls itself Sisters Breaking Barriers Foundation has come to the aid of Robert Grant, a young man with cerebral palsy who was badly in need of a wheelchair.
Grant, 30, was found to have the condition shortly after he was born. His mother, Charmaine Donaldson, recently appealed for assistance in taking care of her son, stating that she was experiencing financial hardships.
Last Thursday, Camille Dennis, founder of the charitable organisation, journeyed to Grant's house in Deeside, St Catherine, to present him with the wheelchair.
"A friend donated this wheelchair to the foundation several months ago and we were contemplating what to do with it. The answer came with the story in THE STAR. We then decided that it is only appropriate to aid a mother whose child needs help," Dennis said.
She further told THE STAR that the organisation was formed for the purpose of helping sisters, mothers and other females in need.
"Since the formation of the foundation in June last year,we have assisted children with tablets and other education materials, and the donation of this wheelchair to Robert means a great deal to us," Dennis said.
Young Grant was elated.
"Lawd Jeezas, mi feel very good and it feel good and comfortable. I'm really thankful for the kindness," he said.
Grant's mother said that the chair would make life easier for her family.
"The other chair got old and was in a bad state, so we are very thankful to these ladies for the help," Donaldson said.
