St Catherine youth club hosts back-to-school treat
On Sunday, more than 100 students were feted at a back to school treat in Hampton Green, Spanish Town, St Catherine, courtesy of the Youth Motorcycle Club.
"As a community club, we find it necessary to give back and we just saw it prudent to start with the children," Club President Lorenzo Hall said.
Hall said that the club, which is located in the community, wants to make a positive impact. He said that the club has 13 members, all of whom are residents of Hampton Green.
"To fund the treat we partnered with [shipping company] Clearance Expressed and the result is what we have here today that sees the children enjoying themselves," Hall said.
When THE STAR visited the community, scores of children were observed enjoying themselves under the guidance of parents and guardians.
"We are thankful that the children are getting some enjoyment post-COVID-19 pandemic. We are also thankful that the return to school has been made easier with donations of stationery," said Denryce Chaplin, a parent.
Those who attended the treat were duly entertained in activities such as face painting, while also having fun on the trampoline, bounceabout and other attractions. There was also an abundance of popcorn, snow cones and ice cream and other goodies for the children. Many residents said that they hoped the treat will be an addition to the community activities.
Hall said that the club is committed to go beyond the community to engage in defensive driving clinics and other positive activities.
