Having won a small jackpot on a Roulette box on Monday evening, Kenroy Kelly was in a jubilant mood as he headed towards his house on Glasspole Avenue in Rockfort, east Kingston.

The 41-year-old chef was probably going to use his winnings to purchase material for his jerk chicken business that he operated outside his gate. But this was not to be. Kelly was killed in a hail of bullets just minutes after he collected the payout. His family is devastated.

"Him just win the box and a walk go up and dem kill him. Man just run outta one yard on him. Mi cry so till. Some little friction a gwan up here enuh. Mi feel like Kenroy dead fi save a lot of people because mi feel like if dem did come down here suh, a whole heap a people woulda dead," a relative said.

According to police reports, at 7:50 p.m., residents reported hearing explosions along Glasspole Avenue and alerted the police. Upon the police's arrival, Kelly was found laying in a pool of blood. He was transported to the hospital by the lawmen where he was pronounced dead.

Another relative said that when she heard the explosions, she got a bad feeling that someone was killed but had no idea that it was Kelly.

"Di whole a we deh here and hear when di shot dem a fire but we never a tink say a him. When mi hear dem mi come out and ask fi Kenroy and somebody say him gone up the road. Mi say to myself say dem shot deh must connect the way dem sound. When mi run go up the road mi see Kenroy on the ground. Dem do him bad man, him nuh have nuh face left. Tension has been high for a while in sections of Rockfort. Residents said that a deadly gang feud between gunmen from Olivier Road and Base1 was responsible for the deaths of over a dozen persons in 18 months.
