May 15 trial for accused in ganja and coke bust

April 12, 2023

A St James man who was reportedly held with more than 40 pounds of ganja and less than an ounce of cocaine in his motor vehicle in 2021 is booked to stand trial in the St James Parish Court on May 15.

Linroy Mundle is charged with possession of, dealing in, and taking steps to export ganja and cocaine. He had his bail extended when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

During Mundle's brief appearance before presiding parish judge Sasha-Marie Ashley, the court was told that an outstanding officer's statement had been added to the prosecution's case-file, and that the file is now ready for trial.

It was also revealed that full disclosure had been made to Mundle's attorney, Charles Sinclair, following the lack of disclosure during Mundle's previous appearance on April 3.

"We will try this again on May 15, which is a trial date. Your bail is extended," Judge Ashley informed Mundle.

The allegations are that on January 11, 2021, officers intercepted Mundle's vehicle on the grounds of the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James. The vehicle was searched, and the officers found two black bags with more than 40 pounds of green vegetable matter resembling ganja, along with a white powdery substance resembling cocaine and weighing 0.65 ounces.

Under caution, Mundle reportedly said to the officers, "I should have looked in the bag before taking it up." He was subsequently arrested and charged.
