St Catherine records second double murder in three days

A manhunt has been launched by the police for those responsible for the killing of two men and the injuring of a female along Jobs Lane, Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday.

The deceased have been identified as Delroy Grant, otherwise called 'Nine Head', 48-year-old labourer of Irish Pen, and 66-year-old Trevor Robinson, otherwise called 'Big Back', labourer of Jobs Lane. Police said the daylight incident occurred in the vicinity of the Spanish Town Depot.

Reports are that about 8 a.m., Grant, Robinson and the woman were standing near a stall along the busy thoroughfare when a vehicle drove up. The trio were reportedly shot by an occupant or occupants within the vehicle. The scene was visited by personnel attached to the St Catherine North police. The Major Investigations Division (MID) is conducting a probe in the matter.

Head of the MID, Superintendent Paul Thomas, said investigators are working assiduously to stem the killings within the area.

"The police will be continuing its work to maintain the reduction in murders within the division since the start of the year," Thomas said. This was the second double killing in Spanish Town this week, as on Monday, Jerome Walters, 21, and his mother, Georgia Coleman, 50, were shot and killed along the adjoining St John's Road.

The police's serious crime report indicate that 731 persons were murdered in Jamaica between January 1 and July 15. St Catherine North, in which Spanish Town falls, has recorded 53 murders during the period, representing a 33 per cent decline when compared to the corresponding period last year.
