Among the guests at the Chris Brown and Friends concert on Sunday were Romar Wilmot and Jason Hall, two artists who had been sitting on an idea to recognise the recording artiste for years.

Wilmot and Hall were planning to create a painting of Brown for the past seven years, so the event provided them with a wonderful opportunity to showcase their artistic skills as a tribute to the internationally renowned artiste. Positioned near the backstage entrance from which Chris Brown would arrive at the event which was held at the National Stadium, the artists shared their journey with THE STAR.

"We had this idea for the project seven years ago, but we only began working on it in January of this year. Just as we were nearing completion, we learned through THE STAR news that he was coming to Jamaica," Wilmot explained, displaying their video capturing the process. "It felt like destiny, and we're incredibly grateful for it."

Wilmot noted that Brown is their favourite artiste, and that's why he came up with the plan.

"We have so much in common when it comes on to the arts, like painting, dancing and having the same interest in anime etc, and he truly appreciates arts," he said.

"And also we realised we could get his attention, and some kinda recognition for art because we thought it's not that appreciated here in Jamaica," he added.

Despite facing initial obstacles due to their demanding jobs as security officers, both artists, age 32, eventually took a leap of faith. They left their jobs and established their own business, Ren Ink Tattoos, specialising in various forms of artwork.

Hall added, "We're also planning to expand into other ventures such as tattoo studios, art studios, and a clothing line."

The 10-foot long painting tells a story by itself, portraying Brown, also known as 'Breezy', with indigo hair and surrounded by images symbolising his various interests, his passions and loves.

Wilmot explained, "The painting showcases Chris Brown as a powerful musical force. The light emanating from him signifies the overwhelming love that counters the negativity, represented by the burning Chinese characters on his shirt."

While the artists received a repost from Brown on social media, they brought the painting to the event with hopes of presenting it to him in person. However, due to the large crowd, they were unable to catch his attention.

"I did manage to speak to his mom though, and she loved it," Wilmot shared. He mentioned that he provided his contact information to Brown's mother and is optimistic about potential future communication.

"We were hoping we could work with him and see what's the best could come out of our encounter with him and we just really wanted to give him his flowers he deserves," Wilmot said.
