Bathroom attendant held with ammunition
A bathroom attendant who has already spent three weeks in custody on ammunition charges will have to spend this weekend behind bars before he is offered bail in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Prosecutors have requested an adjournment in the matter against Linval Thompson, to verify the address where he will reside, should he be offered bail. Thompson is charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition. It was shared that Thompson was accosted while cleaning the bathroom at the Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree. When searched by the police, a black drawstring bag was found on him containing four live rounds of ammunition. When questioned by the police, the 36-year-old indicated that he was not sure how the items got in his bag.
The Crown expressed to Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque that they are opposed to bail, as investigators said that Thompson does not have a fixed address and is also being treated as a suspect in housebreaking and larceny case.
"He provided two addresses and, when they were checked, at one address there was only a bag for him, and, at the other, a woman said he only sleeps there some nights," the prosecutor shared.
However, Thompson's lawyer said that his mother resides at one of the addresses, and that his client, who is a construction worker, is not a flight risk.
But the senior jurist expressed concern about the Crown's utterances and said that the address of Thompson's mother should be verified. The matter was therefore adjourned until Monday. Thompson was remanded.
