St James police constable charged with rape
Shalon Campbell, a 31-year-old police constable assigned to the St James Police Division, has been charged with forcible abduction, rape, buggery, grievous sexual assault, and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
He was arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday, and within 24 hours after being interviewed in the presence of his attorney, was officially charged.
Reports indicate that Campbell was involved in a sexual relationship with a young woman from St James who he accused of infidelity which escalated into a case of alleged physical abuse.
It is further alleged that in October of this year, after subjecting her to severe beatings, he forcibly transported her to another parish where he continued to subject her to abuse, confining her to a house without her consent.
He was arrested and charged by the St James branch of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
