Unpaid cell phones lead to larceny charge

December 18, 2023

A 58-year-old man, who is accused of receiving two phones but then did not pay for them, was offered bail on Thursday when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Prosecutors contend that the complainant operates a phone store and went to the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston to hand over two cell phones to the accused, Christopher Wilson. It is alleged that Wilson collected the cell phones on behalf of someone else and did not pay the complainant. He was subsequently charged with larceny by trick. A plea was not entered when he appeared before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque.

He was offered $200,000 bail with at least two sureties and conditions were imposed that Wilson does not interact with the complainant. Wilson is to report to the police once weekly and surrender his travel documents. A stop order was imposed.

The matter was adjourned until April 12, 2024.
