Man caught with fake passport
A 48-year-old Corporate Area man told the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that his father acquired a fake passport for him when he returned to Jamaica after being deported from the United Kingdom.
Greg Morris was fined a total of $160,000 on Thursday, after pleading guilty to making a false declaration and obtaining a passport by means of a forged document. The defendant explained that he was deported in 2007 and his father was able to get a fake passport for him. He said that his father urged him to use the passport whenever he was conducting businesses, and, further, to get married.
"I was about 31 at the time but I never used it," Morris told acting master-in-chambers Her Honour Luciana Jackson.
The fraud was picked up by members of the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency some time this year when Morris tried to renew his passport in his correct name.
