The St Catherine North police are being praised for their efforts which lead to the rescue of a man who was kidnapped and held for ransom in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Thursday night.

The praises were sang by Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary Griffiths, who says the swift action of the police team prevented a potential tragedy and demonstrated the force's commitment to public safety and its relentless efforts in combating crime.

It is reported that a rescue operation was launched by the police about 10:00 p.m. after it was reported that a man was kidnapped and ransom was being demanded.

The endeavour brought them to the Tawes Meadows community in Spanish Town.

During the course of the operation, the police encountered armed resistance. In the ensuing engagement, one of the suspects was fatally shot. He has not yet been identified.

They rescued the kidnapped individual and arrested two men in connection with the crime. A .38 revolver containing five .38 cartridges, was seized at the scene. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been informed of the incident.
