CPFSA clarifies reports of ‘abandoned’ children at hospital
The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) says that it is aware of the case of four children who were allegedly abandoned at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
The agency said that it has been working alongside the management team at the hospital to act in the best interest of the well-being of each child. According to the CEO of the CPFSA, Laurette Adams-Thomas:
"While this story recently appeared in the media during the holiday season, these are not new social cases. Each of these children have a medical issue, and we have been working with the management of the hospital, in the best interest of the children, to see how quickly each child can be brought into our care," she said.
"Once the children are well enough, they will be transferred into the care of the CPFSA, so that we may provide them with the care and protection that they will now require. The CPFSA is also cognisant of the need to support the Ministry of Health and Wellness in ensuring that, where possible, the necessary beds can be freed within the hospital to facilitate patients in need of hospitalisation," she added.
