Similar names cause confusion at parish court

January 04, 2024

The police have been given until February 6 to present "the right" Kevin Brown, after lawmen incorrectly brought another man, also named Kevin Brown, before the St Catherine Parish Court.

The incident occurred on  Tuesday.

After the allegations were outlined by the Clerk of Courts, the strange revelation was made that the Kevin Brown before the court, was not the correct one.

The STAR understands the man before the court, who was also in police custody, is to answer charges related to a sexual offence.

He declared that he too was very surprised at the mix-up.

"Your honour, this is the wrong person. I am Kevin Anthony Brown and I have been in custody since November 2022; almost 14 months now," the incorrect Brown said.

The judge acknowledged the foul-up and presented the new date to the police who then assured that the accused will be in court come February 6.

It is reported that on October 22, 2023, the complainant rented her car to a client, who failed to return the vehicle. A report was made and an investigation launched.

A man, who gave his name as Kevin Brown, was held with in St Catherine with the car after he modified it and attempted to sell it to a policeman.

He was arrested and charged, but was transferred to another parish.
