Strike at UWI withdrawn following interim arrangement

January 05, 2024

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus has announced that the industrial action planned by its academic, senior administrative and professional staff, has been withdrawn.

This follows a meeting held on January 4 with representatives of the university’s senior management, finance minister Nigel Clarke, education minister Fayval Williams and the unions representing UWI staff.

The STAR understands that a mechanism was put in place to work out an interim salary adjustment to be presented to the finance ministry by the end of January for consideration.

The interim salary adjustment will subsist until a comprehensive salary review is completed.

”We value the contributions of our academic and administrative staff and are dedicated to ensuring that their well-being is looked after to ensure a caring accountable, motivated and professional team,” said Professor Densil A. Williams, UWI Principal.

The UWI Mona says it remains focused on delivering value to all its stakeholders.
