Taximan find $100k for dangerous driving

A taxi operator who almost mowed down a student attempting to cross the Duncan's  Pen Main Road in St Catherine, was fined $100,000 in the parish court on Friday. 

The accused, identified as Andre Rainford, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Parish Court judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle.

The court heard that earlier today that the investigating officer, Paul Banbury, was driving along the roadway and stopped at some point to allow a student to cross the road.

It was at that time that Rainford broke the line and sped off almost hitting the child. He was pursued stopped, cautioned and charged.

Everything was reportedly captured on the officer's body camera.

Rainford pleaded guilty. He was initially fined $150,000, but his attorney intervened and a $50,000 reduction was granted.
