Track coach’s bail extended until September 20
A St James track and field coach, who is accused of lottery scamming, had his bail extended to September 20 when he appeared before the St James Circuit Court on Monday.
Desroy Anderson is before the court on the charge of possession of identity information. During his brief court appearance, presiding High Court Justice Bertram Morrison was told that a report from the police's Communication Forensics and Cyber-Crime Division was outstanding. The prosecution requested a September date to facilitate the completion of the case file.
Justice Morrison subsequently set September 20 as the next mention date and extended Anderson's bail.
Allegations are that on February 20, 2022, officers from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch carried out an operation at a dwelling on Chester Avenue in Montego Bay, St James, where Anderson was reportedly found with other persons in a gambling room. He was allegedly found with three cellular phones - one of which allegedly reportedly contained identity information of persons residing overseas - and US$21,000 (approximately J$3.2 million). He was subsequently arrested and charged under the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act.
