It was a solemn yet celebratory affair as family, friends and well-wishers gathered at the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, 38 Jobs Lane, Spanish Town, St Catherine, last Saturday to bid farewell to Bishop Edgar Eason.

The late clergyman, who was remembered as a true stalwart, trailblazer and defender of the faith, died on December 2, leaving an impactful legacy. He was 92 years old.

Pastor Maureen Marshall described Eason as "a very special person in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World". Relating snippets of the life of the great man of God, Marshall said he was part of several missionary journeys across Jamaica in the 1960s.

"It is a very great man who is laying in that box," she said of Eason, who pastored churches in Riversdale and Linstead, St Catherine.

Eason served as district officer in the ministry, where he had responsibility for churches in Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine.

The bishop was also a board member of the national brotherhood auxiliary. Pastor Marshall said that Eason "displayed Christ-like decorum" as he was always calm, "but when he spoke he did so with great insight and godly prudence".

Marie Easton, one of the late bishop's children, described him as her cheerleader who often boasted about her culinary skills and encouraged her to strive for excellence at all times.

"Dad was loving, caring and kind. He loves all his children dearly, and was protective towards us. He was a father who took his responsibilities seriously," she added.

Norman Eason, the bishop's son, shared poignant memories of a father known for his respect, devotion to the congregation, and his impact on the lives of his children and those around him.

"My father was a true Christian who pastored many churches in Jamaica and the United States of America. He died at 92 and we are grieving, but are pleased that he lived a full life," Norman said.

He continued: "I honour his memory as a true provider for his immediate family and those in need. My father was a stalwart to all his children and he instilled the values of family, through Christ, in us."

Born in Westmoreland on August 20, 1931, Edgar Eason spent his formative years in the community of Fellowship. He moved to Spanish Town in 1950 following his graduation from Knockalva Boarding School in Hanover.

He was baptised in 1956 and one year later he married Lorna Walters. The union lasted 56 years until Lorna passed in 2015.

Bishop Eason's remains were interred at the Dovecot Memorial Park.
