65 murders recorded since Jan 1
According to the latest crimes statistics published by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), 65 persons have been murdered since the start of the New Year.
While this indicates a 20 per cent decline when compared to the same period last year, the report indicates that all 19 police divisions have recorded at least one homicide.
During the corresponding period in 2023, St Andrew Central, Trelawny and Portland were murder free at the start of the year, however, they have now recorded five, two and one murders respectively.
St James, who recorded the highest number annually, twice in a row, continues to be the most murderous of all divisions with a total of 12. This is followed by the St Ann police division which is seeing a 100% jump with eight murders.
Shootings, injured persons and robbery reports have increased, however, there is a decline in rape and break-ins year on year.
