KipRich, Kizzy Don seek help for premature baby
Dancehall artistes KipRich and Kizzy Don have launched a GoFundMe account for their prematurely born daughter Miracle who is currently in intensive care at a health facility in Colombia.
Speaking with THE STAR yesterday, KipRich said they are trying to raise at least US$250,000 (approximately J$39.1 million) to take care of the medical expenses of the infant who entered the world on January 16 at just six months old.
"The cost varies per day as yesterday (Monday) the bill was 13 million Colombian pesos (approximately US$3,500, J$548,000) and today (Tuesday) is another bill because they did a transfusion on her. They have to be giving her treatments to help with her lungs and so on. The thing is that we have to be making preparations to move her from this facility because they don't have all the resources needed to keep her, so we have to move to another island and that airfare is US$15,000 (approximately J$2.34 million)," he said.
KipRich had travelled to Colombia to perform at a show in San Andres last Saturday. Kizzy Don, 28, a social media star and an up-and-coming entertainer, had accompanied KipRich. He said Kizzy Don had received clearance from her doctor to travel before leaving the US. The entertainer said he was told that Miracle may spend another three months in the facility after which she will be airlifted to the US.
"She is going to need daily medications so we going to have to pay for that daily and we are trying to pay for treatments ahead of the time so that they will keep her covered at all times. After that we are going to have to airlift her to the United States where insurance can help with some of the bills. That airfare alone to the United States is US$98,000 (approximately J$15.3 million) alone as they have to travel with a medical team," he said.
He stated that the experience has been overwhelming, especially for Kizzy Don, who often breaks down in tears. But he expressed gratitude for the support, and continued to seek prayers.
"Its draining because we never plan for this. We just come here to do the show and get some content and then next ting she know she was in labour. Before all of this I didn't have any knowledge that baby can come at six months. You know its Kizzy's first child so she will cry at times, so I have to be here being her strength. Everything is going to work itself out," KipRich said.
As of press time, nearly US$5,000 (approximately J$782,750) had been raised toward the goal.
