A few months ago, physicians at the Shriners Burns Centre in Texas, USA, were reportedly moments from declaring burn victim Alecia King dead.

According to Stephen Joseph, of the Sanmerna Foundation, King began bleeding uncontrollably after a surgery a few months ago, and the doctors appeared unable to stop it. He said that doctors were moments away from declaring her deceased when a miracle happened.

"She is a fighter, I have to say that," remarked Joseph, who played a role in getting King to the USA for treatment.

"There were moments that we thought she was losing the battle as she had some really bad days, but she has pulled through. There was this moment when she did a surgery and she was just bleeding out and the doctors could barely do anything to stop it. They had said that if she didn't respond within the next three hours then they would have issued her death certificate and she responded to them in two hours and 58 minutes," he said.

The teenager, who is now 18 years old, was doused with gasolene and set ablaze as she slept at a relative's house in Redwood, St Catherine, last August. Her ex-boyfriend, Antwone Grey, has been listed as a person of interest by the police and is urged to report to the nearest police station.

King has completed all of her critical surgeries and is out of the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Her brother, Demar King, said he is elated that she is recovering while adding that she is in high spirits.

"She is a very strong girl and her spirits are high and she is in a good mood. She is very grateful despite her condition and looks forward to just continuing her life," he said.

In a recent video that was posted on the social media site TikTok, King thanked everyone who had assisted her on this challenging and life changing journey.

"I am grateful for where I am at now and I want to say a big thank you to the people in my country and others around the world. I want to thank the ones that reached out to me and prayed their heart out. I know my God will work this through because he has done miracles. I have lived my life all over again because of this situation. I am happy to see myself right here right now. Most people didn't know that I could make it but it is just the faith," she said.
