Nasty behaviour irks judge

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque has expressed disgust at the behaviour of Corporate Area citizens, who continue to disregard members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The judge made the comment while sentencing Italia Green to community service in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.

Green was arrested and charged after she spat on the face of a woman she was fighting, while in the presence of the police. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assaulting police, failing to move on, common assault and use of indecent language.

"Me sick and tired of the nasty behaviour of the people dem in the Corporate Area. Imagine you are fighting in front of the police, who wearing them denim uniform, and not even that meant anything to you?" the senior jurist asked.

On Monday, Cole-Montaque remanded Green in custody for three nights. Those nights, according to Green, were rough.

"Me waah go home," she told the judge. "Me affi a sleep pon cold concrete," she said further.

Cole-Montaque responded, telling Green, "You earned that. I knew when I was remanding you in custody, it was not somewhere comfortable".

"Don't let it happen again," she warned.

Green was fined $2,000 or 10 days' imprisonment for disorderly conduct, $3,000 or 10 days' imprisonment for resisting arrest, $10,000 or 30 days' imprisonment for common assault and $2,000 or 10 days' imprisonment for indecent language.

She was also sentenced to 60 hours community service for assaulting police.
