A Corporate Area man who was contracted by an elderly woman to do repairs at her house will have to pay more than $100,000 for damage he caused to the premises.

The man, Jaheim Hamilton, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property following an incident on January 20 at the complainant's home.

It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that Hamilton went to the complainant's home to collect an outstanding sum as payment for a job he completed. The woman had agreed to pay Hamilton $90,000 for his labour. She paid him $50,000 with a remaining $40,000 due at a later date.

Hamilton went to the complainant's house on January 20 to collect his money but she told him that she had no money at the time. She also told him to return later in the afternoon.

This utterance, according to the complainant, caused Hamilton to get irate and he began throwing stones at her house, causing windows to break. He also used a machete to chop at the door. A stone, according to prosecutors hit the complainant in her back and splinters from the broken glass caused a cut to her nose.

"If he were to pay for your medical expenses and to repair the damages to your home, would you be willing to and this matter?" presiding judge Carlo Mason quizzed the complainant.

"Yes, Your Honour," she replied, informing the court that she spent $8,000 at the doctor and total damages amount to $105,000.

Hamilton agreed to make compensation.

"Just like that, Sir, you lose all the money she was going to pay you," judge Mason said to Hamilton.

The matter was adjourned until May 3, when payments are to be made in court .
