Police facing challenges in Gregory Park, says SSP Phillips
The community of Gregory Park in Portmore, St Catherine continues to be on the police's radar as crime continues to plague the area.
In a conversation with the STAR, Senior Superintendent of Police, Christopher Phillips, explained that the St Catherine South police is facing several challenges in the community.
"We have been having some challenges in the Gregory Park area, including reports of murders and shootings within the general area. As a result, residents have been crying out for the police's help and we just want to thank them for believing in us," Phillips said.
The senior crime fighter was speaking to members of the media following this morning's fatal shooting in the Caymanas Gardens section of the community.
It is reported a man, whose identity has yet to be determined, fired several shots at members of the police operations team, who in-turn took evasive action and returned fire.
It is further reported that an AK-47 rifle and a shotgun were seized from a nearby premises. Several men from the community have since been taken into custody
"We are going to relentlessly pursue criminals in the St Catherine South Police Division. So again, we are appealing to the residents to continue supporting and cooperating with the police. We will not leave you to the mercy of these criminals," Phillips said.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched their own probe into the fatal shooting.
