Woman who allegedly threw baby off rooftop collapses in court

Proceedings in the St James Parish Court came to a dramatic halt on Wednesday when Shamoya Green, the woman accused of killing her five-month-old daughter last December, collapsed.

Green, 27, who is charged with the murder of her infant daughter Destiny Brown, appeared disoriented and confused when she appeared before presiding Parish Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce, moments before she collapsed, her body trembling.

"Mi pickney dem gone lef' me and mi can't get mi pickney dem; mi nuh know why. Mi pickney dem gone lef' me, dem gone lef' me," the teary-eyed Green lamented. "Mi pickney dem deh 'bout a call me, a call me, a call me, and me can't get mi pickney dem...dem a call me, dem say, 'Mummy, Mummy, Mummy', and every time mi ask fi go to dem, mi can't get fi go to dem."

Moments later, Green complained of feeling ill before collapsing, and was tended to by both police officers and onlookers. A few minutes later, when she managed to stand, she had to be restrained from climbing atop the dock's railing. Meanwhile, the court was told that the post-mortem report was outstanding from the prosecution's case file.

Grant-Pryce subsequently set the case for mention on April 3, while also ordering that Green should be given a psychiatric evaluation and medical attention ahead of that date. The judge also ordered that family members should be contacted to attend the next court session.

Allegations are that on December 6, 2023, about 5:35 p.m., Green was at home with her common-law husband and other relatives when she tried to have a conversation with the man about their relationship. However, he put off the talks to later that evening.

Green reportedly became enraged and left the room, taking the baby with her. She then took the child to the roof of the third floor of the family's house and threw her onto the concrete pit in the yard. The police were alerted and Destiny was taken to the hospital, where she died while being treated.
