Twenty young people who have been successful in various fields, are to receive the 2023 Prime Minister's National Youth Award for Excellence (PMNYAE) at a ceremony on the lawns of Jamaica House on April 20.

The award recipients were selected from a list of more than 100 applicants, who went through a rigorous interview process and social interaction events before 40 were shortlisted, prior to the final selection.

In an interview with the Jamaica Information Service, Fabian Brown, chairman of the PMNYAE Selection Committee, said the award is the highest honour that the country can bestow upon its young people for the great work and talent they display in the various categories.

"Our young people are making us proud in every nook and cranny of our country... it is safe to say that our nation is in very good hands," said Brown, who noted he was very impressed and encouraged by the calibre of applications that were submitted.

Recipients of this year's awards will be recognised for their exceptional achievement in categories such as sports, agriculture, arts and culture, academics, nation-building, and environmental protection. There will also be the Prime Minister's Special Award, which is to be presented to an individual or organisation for exceptional achievement in their field of study or work.
